ISLAMABAD: has decided to close a vital border crossing with Afghanistan, following the recommendation of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
Sheikh Rasheed, the Interior Minister, said on Tuesday that the Torkham border will be blocked to all forms of immigration departures and arrivals starting today.
The crossing will stay blocked until NCOC issues new guidelines, according to the ministry.
There are several crossing sites between the two nations, but the ones in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chaman are the most popular.
An rise in viral infections in Afghanistan has prompted Pakistan to take the appropriate precautions.
The NCOC published new rules for Afghan students just a day earlier, extending the necessary quarantine time to ten days.
