LAHORE — Arif Nizami, a veteran journalist and former caretaker federal minister for communication and postal services, died in Lahore on Wednesday.

After suffering a heart attack, the journalist was treated at a hospital for the last two weeks.

Arif Nizami is the son of Hameed Nizami, the founder of the Nawa-i-Waqt newspaper group.

“Saddened to learn of the loss of renowned journalist, editor, and political analyst Arif Nizami,” Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a statement following the journalist’s death.

He said, “My sympathies and prayers go out to his family.”

President Dr. Arif Alvi also expressed his condolences for the death of legendary journalist Arif Nizami, and prayed for his soul and the grieving family.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain both expressed their sadness over Arif Nizami’s death.
