KARACHI, Pakistan — The bail application of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khurshid Shah in the assets case was denied by the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday.

The SHC instructed the trial court to complete the matter as soon as possible during the hearing on the PPP leader’s appeal.

Syed Khursheed Shah, a top PPP politician, was detained by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a case involving his claimed riches beyond means.

“NAB Sukkur apprehended Syed Khursheed Shah in the assets beyond means case,” NAB Islamabad announced in a brief scribbled statement.

The National Bureau of Investigation is looking into a number of corruption allegations involving Shah. In 2012, an accountability court ordered NAB to submit a reference against him on a complaint alleging illicit asset buildup.

Under the orders of the Lahore High Court, the NAB revived two corruption cases against Shah in 2013.
