ISLAMABAD: US Presidential Envoy for Climate Change Senator John Kerry has praised Pakistan’s efforts in combating environmental degradation on a global scale, saying that Washington is willing to work together with Islamabad to address climate change concerns.
These statements were delivered by John Kerry during his discussion with Malik Amin Aslam, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change, during the UNFCCC 26th Conference of Parties meeting in London.
He lauded Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami initiative and commended him for his “green vision.”
The Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Effort, according to the US presidential envoy, is the finest project in the world for environmental protection. He also praised the prime minister’s decision to phase out coal-fired power facilities from the energy mix.
Both parties committed to work together to address climate change risks at the conference and formed a joint working group to do so.
Senator John Kerry praised Prime Minister Imran Khan’s “green vision” in dealing with global environmental concerns.
Climate Change SAPM Senator Malik Amin Aslam was informed on the government’s clean green programmes by Malik Amin Aslam.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has made significant efforts to combat climate change,” Malik Amin Aslam said, adding that the PM has suspended construction on a new coal-fired power plant and begun work on alternative energy projects.
The timing was right for US President Joe Biden’s attempt to lead the world in environmental preservation, he said, adding, “Pakistan applauds President Obama’s environmental leadership and initiatives.”
Amin Aslam described his discussion with Kerry as “constructive.” “Pakistan, under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s green leadership, looks forward to working with the US administration on climate change and environmental issues.”
