BAGHDAD (Reuters) – At least 15 people were killed in an attack on a funeral procession in northern Iraq.
Since their territorial defeat in 2017 by Iraqi security forces with support from the US-led coalition, northern Iraq has been a hotbed for Daesh activities.
Anti-Daesh operations are regularly carried out by Iraqi forces in the harsh mountainous northern area and the deserts of western Iraq, where they are believed to be holed up.
Attacks by Daesh have slowed in recent years, but still persist in certain regions, where security personnel are frequently ambushed, raided, and targeted with IEDs.
