NAGAR — According to unofficial results, Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP) candidate Ayub Waziri won a by-election seat in the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly constituency GBLA-4 Nagar on Sunday.
Ayub Waziri of the ITP earned 5,241 votes, while the PTI candidate received 5,097 votes, according to an unofficial and unverified total of all 42 polling stations received by Dunya News.
The polls opened at 9 a.m. and closed at 5 p.m.
According to the GB Election Commission, a total of 42 polling stations, including 16 for women, have been created, with 98 separate voting booths for men and women.
The seat had became vacant because Amjad Hussain, the PPP’s opposition leader in the GB Assembly, resigned from the seat after winning two seats, including Gilgit-1, in the November general elections.
Three candidates, including PTI’s Zulfiqar Ali Behashti, PPP’s Javed Hussain, and ITP’s Ayub Waziri, were expected to compete closely.
It’s worth noting that the PML-N withdrew their candidate from the election campaign in protest at the GB government’s alleged pre-poll fraud.
