KABUL: On Saturday Taliban fighters took a key city in North Afghanistan and fleeed afghan army and came nearer to Kabul, the capital to be evacuated by Western powers.
Another major conquest of the rebels was the collapse of Mazar-i-Sharif confirming by a provincial officer of the council, who surged over the nation over the last weeks as US soldiers retired.
The only large cities not under the hands of the Taliban are Kabul and Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan. AFP claimed that rebel forces are currently camped 50 km from Kabul.
The USA and Britain are currently pouring back into the nation several thousand troops to evacuate people, with Kabul in mind that it may be overcome shortly.
Afzal Hadid, president of the Balkh Provincial Council, told Reuters, security troops from Mazar-I-Sharif escaped towards the border.
“Mazar-i-Sharif has been taken over by the Taliban,” he claimed. “Town of Mazar has left all security troops.” Although isolated fighting continued nearby, the city looked generally to have succumbed without a battle.
The insurgents took earlier in the day a city south of Kabul, one of the gates to the capital.
Many Afghans have fled from the regions, forced out of the city by violence and afraid of a return to the Taliban rule, as opposition forces in Afghanistan collapse.
As Saturday night came, a resident claimed, hundreds were cloaked in tents or in the open in the town, along the highways or in parks.
“In their faces you can detect dread,” he remarked.
Many Kabulers have reported that rice, other supplies and first aid are stored up in Kabul.
President Ashraf Ghani had conversations with local leaders and foreign allies, but showed little evidence of answering a Taliban’s request to quit for any cessation of shooting.
In a short broadcast speech, he added: “The aim was to prevent more instable conditions, violence and the displacement of my people.”
Qatar, where the Afghan Government has held so-called fruitless peace negotiations with the Taliban, claimed the militants were told to stop the firing during a meeting with their officials on Saturday.
