Mr Muhyiddin Yassin has been named Malaysia’s temporary prime minister, after the king’s acceptance of his resignation on Monday (Aug 16).
The king has received the letter of resignation from Mr Muhyiddin and the whole Cabinet with effect from Monday, according to a statement released by the national palace reported by CNA
“His Majesty has consented that the Most Honorable Tan Sri Mahiaddin bin Md Yasin shall serve as caretaker prime minister until a new prime minister is chosen upon his resignation.”
The palace statement went on to say that convening a general election during the epidemic was not the greatest choice for the people’s safety.
