LAHORE, — Ramiz Raja, a former Pakistan captain and prominent pundit, is likely to become the new head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The decision was made following a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan, who approved the change of guard at the PCB. Once the succession process is completed, Raja will take over for Ehsan Mani.
Ramiz has announced that he has accepted the position. “The goal is to reset Pakistan cricket’s GPS and pursue greatness,” Raja, who was also the PCB’s Chief Executive Officer, said.
Ramiz’s appointment will be a bit of a hassle. As one of the two nominations, his name will be forwarded to the PCB’s Board of Governors first.
Following that, if another BoG member wishes to run, there may be an election, although a PM’s candidate is unlikely to face opposition. Mani was elected unopposed three years ago after Imran nominated him. Similarly, Ramiz should be able to make his way to the top.
Ehsan Mani resigned as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier today.
Ehsan Mani stated that he has told Prime Minister Imran Khan that he will be stepping down as chairman.
Earlier this week, former captain and famous commentator Ramiz Raja and Ehsan Mani met with Prime Minister Imran Khan at PM House to discuss the nomination of the new chairman of the PCB.
Ehsan Mani informed PM Khan on board affairs and the domestic cricket system.
Mani was the sole candidate to submit nomination papers for the position, and all members of the Board of Governors voted unanimously for him to lead the PCB. He had taken over for Najam Sethi, who had resigned after Imran’s party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), took over the federal government.
