Former Chief Justice of Gilgit-Baltistan Justice (retd) Rana Shamim has been summoned by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in connection with his charges against ex-CJP Saqib Nisar.
The IHC has summoned Shamim, The News’ editor-in-chief, as well as the newspaper’s editor and writer Ansar Abbasi, to appear before it tomorrow (Tuesday).
According to a report in The News, then-CJP Saqib Nisar had ordered a high court judge not to release Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz on bail before the 2018 General Elections at any cost.
Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif must remain in prison till the general elections are completed. “After guarantees from the opposite side, he (Saqib Nisar) grew calm and cheerfully wanted another cup of tea,” says the affidavit of the former top judge of GB, referring to Pakistan’s then chief justice.
After the Islamabad High Court Registry took note of the report, Chief Justice Athar Minallah conducted an emergency hearing and decided to call the aforementioned individuals.
During the hearing, Justice Minallah stated that the court would take this matter seriously and that an attempt has been made to undermine the public’s trust in the courts.
Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., Justice Minallah will preside over the hearing.
