Ex-CJ GB’s revelations: The IHC has issued a contempt of court summons to news publications.

ISLAMABAD – On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) held a hearing on a suo motu complaint involving allegations made by Rana Muhammad Shamim, the former chief judge of Gilgit Baltistan, about Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah stated during the hearing that he trusts all of the court’s judges. Judges can be held accountable and chastised as well. If people lose faith in the courts, he warned, a climate of scepticism would dominate in society.

According to Athar Minallah, he has also suffered reaction on social media. He also told the journalist to read the title of his report. The IHC CJ inquired as to where the old judge had notarized this affidavit, as it does not appear in any court records.

He asked the senior journalist, who is also an investigative journalist, if he had fully researched the topic before publishing it. You are attempting to ruin people’s belief in the courts by writing such a news article on the front page of the country’s most recognised newspaper, he continued.

“You are entitled to criticise us,” Justice Athar Minallah said, “but don’t encourage the public to lose faith in the courts.”

The court then issued a contempt of court notice to all parties and delayed the case until November 26.

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar had stated that the news published against him is false.

“Rana Shamim was requesting for an extension as Gilgit Baltistan Chief Judge, but I didn’t approve,” the ex-top judge said in a statement. What can I say about Rana Shamim’s deception, he wondered.

According to Saqib Nisar, recording reactions to every false and spurious claim is not a good idea.

Former Chief Justice of Gilgit Baltistan Rana Muhammad Shamim later dismissed charges levelled by former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.

In an exclusive interview with Dunya News, the former top judge of the United Kingdom emphasised that he had not requested nor been granted an extension of his tenure by the Chief Justice of the United Kingdom.

Rana Muhammad Shamim also inquired as to which clause of the constitution he might give an extension under.
