SLAMABAD — The Supreme Court (SC) held a hearing on a suo moto case involving the use of military land for commercial purposes on Tuesday.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed urged Defence Secretary retired Lt Gen Mian Mohammad Hilal Hussain to surrender the land to the government if no military activity is taking place on it.
Cinemas, gas stations, housing societies, retail malls, and wedding halls have been built on territory set aside for defence purposes, he noted.
According to the Supreme Court, all of the Cantonment Board’s lands are facing a similar challenge. He revealed that a retired major had leased the site of worldwide marquee.
