(Dunya News) – ISLAMABAD – Teachers and staff protested on Thursday against the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) being placed under the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI).
According to reports, the demonstrators gained access to the Parliament by dismantling obstacles and fences, where they assaulted security staff and exchanged angry remarks.
If the government does not abandon this decision, the teachers have threatened to transform the demonstration outside Parliament into a sit-in.
Meanwhile, in his address to demonstrators, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif said that the government is attempting to cause issues for teachers by implementing the Local Government Ordinance 2021. We’re not going to let the ministers do anything they want, he stressed.
According to Khawaja Asif, the ordinary public is being forced to sell their children and kidneys owing to the country’s rising inflation.
On the other side, all 390 federal capital schools remained closed, affecting around 200,000 pupils.
It should be noted that the teachers went on strike in protest of the Local Government Ordinance 2021. The FDE will report to Islamabad’s yet-to-be-elected mayor under this regulation.
