Today, millions of people vote in the first round of LG elections in 17 KP districts.

PESHAWAR – The first phase of local government elections in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to take place today (Sunday).

Polling will begin at 8 a.m. and run until 5 p.m., with no breaks.

Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Khyber, Mohmand, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Haripur, Buner, and Bajaur are among the 17 districts where elections will be conducted.

Over 12.668 million registered voters, comprising 7,015,757 male and 5,653,095 female voters, will decide the destiny of 37,752 candidates running for various seats, with 4,188 sensitive polling locations and 2,507 most sensitive polling stations announced.

In this regard, strict security precautions have been undertaken, and polling personnel has been assigned their roles and has received training.

For the security of voters, 77,000 police officers and law enforcement professionals will be stationed outside polling stations and booths during the elections.

Both of these critical places have CCTV cameras installed, and carrying firearms or electronic devices is forbidden at all voting booths.

There are 689 candidates running for 689 tehsils, including 19,285 general seats in village and neighbourhood councils, 3,870 women, 7,428 farmers and labourers, 6,011 youth, and 293 minorities.
