PESHAWAR, Pakistan — The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has resolved to investigate the party’s failure in the first round of local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to reports, Mehmood Khan, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, provided Prime Minister Imran Khan with a report detailing infractions of the party’s policies. Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and other districts were used to construct the study.

The ruling party has decided to file charges against members who voted for opposition candidates. MNAs and MPAs will get show-cause notices as well.

After a PTI candidate lost a coveted mayoral seat in a province the premier’s party has dominated since 2013, Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed his party had paid the price for “mistakes” in recent local elections and that he would personally monitor future campaign tactics for his side.

On Sunday, local elections were held in 17 districts in Pakistan’s northern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On January 16, local elections will be held in the remaining 18 districts of KP in the second phase. In the next months, local elections will be held in Pakistan’s other provinces.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has previously ordered candidates who won local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to provide information of election costs.

If the candidates do not provide the requisite documentation within 10 days, the commission will not issue victory notifications, according to a representative for the commission.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has won 21 Tehsil Chairmen seats, including three mayoral elections, according to unofficial and unverified results of 58 out of 64 seats.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has won 14 Tehsil Chairman seats so far, whereas the Awami National Party (ANP) has won eight seats, including one Mayor and seven Tehsil Chairmen.

The election of Tehsil Chairman was won by seven independent candidates.

The Pakistan Muslim League-N received three seats, the Jamaat-e-Islami received two seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Tehreek-e-Islah Pakistan each received one seat.
