ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Shaukat Tarin, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Revenue, took his oath as a senator on Friday.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani gave the oath to the newly-elected senator, according to reports.

Last month, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Muhammad Ayub Afridi resigned as a member of the upper house, leaving the seat empty.

Shaukat Tarin was previously elected senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

During Senate by-elections, 122 of the 145 members of the provincial parliament voted. The financial adviser won the seat with 87 votes.
