Ex-India captain Ganguly has been discharged after testing negative for Omicron.

KOLKATA, India (AFP) – Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricket captain, was released from hospital on Friday, four days after being hospitalised with COVID-19, according to a senior doctor.

The 49-year-old was admitted to the hospital in Kolkata on Monday after testing positive for the virus and experiencing a moderate fever.

“After he tested negative for the Omicron variety, he voiced his desire to return home,” the doctor told AFP.

“As part of his treatment, Ganguly received an antibody cocktail therapy,” his brother Snehasish told AFP.

He added, “Sourav is resting at home.”

Ganguly, the head of India’s cricket board and one of the country’s most popular players, was brought to hospital twice earlier this year with chest problems and underwent an angioplasty.

India has confirmed 1,270 Omicron cases, with COVID infection counts falling substantially following a disastrous surge in April and May.
