India claims a kid has been ‘caught’ by the Chinese army after going missing near the border.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – According to India’s defence ministry, a 17-year-old Indian kid was “reportedly detained” by the Chinese military after going missing near the nations’ shared border.

According to a post on the defence ministry’s Twitter account, the Indian army has contacted its Chinese counterpart in order to identify and return the youngster, Miram Tarom.

Tapir Gao, a politician from the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, where Tarom resides, claimed in a separate tweet that the adolescent was reportedly taken on Tuesday while a friend fled and contacted Indian officials.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry could not be reached for comment right away.

India and China have regularly battled over their long and disputed Himalayan border, and China claims Arunachal Pradesh entirely as part of its Tibet area.

At least 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers were killed in clashes in the Galwan valley in 2020.

In recent years, there have been multiple cases of Indian people going missing along the border, which New Delhi has frequently blamed on Chinese kidnapping operations. Beijing strongly rejects this.
