Prime Minister Imran Khan will depart for China today (Thursday) on a three-day visit at the request of the Chinese leadership to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games.
The Prime Minister will be joined by a high-level delegation comprised of Cabinet members and senior government officials.
The Olympic Games, as a worldwide event, promote mutual understanding, inclusion, and goodwill among the peoples of the globe. Beijing will soon be the first city to host both the summer and winter Olympic Games.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will meet with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang on a bilateral basis. The leaders will examine all aspects of bilateral relations, with a particular emphasis on increased trade and economic cooperation, including CPEC.
They will also engage in a wide-ranging discussion on significant regional and worldwide topics.
It would thus renew the bilateral commitment to taking Pakistan and China’s unbreakable partnership to new heights and provide impetus to cooperation across multiple domains. Several Memorandums of Understanding and Agreements would be signed during the visit.
During his visit to Beijing, the Prime Minister will also meet with prominent Chinese business leaders, as well as representatives from leading Chinese think tanks, academia, and the media.
On the sidelines, he will also conduct additional bilateral talks.
The Prime Minister’s visit would be the culmination of events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, with over 140 events planned to demonstrate the resilience of the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the unfolding international situation.
