On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ruled that a plea to organise a referendum on the country’s presidential system was unconstitutional.

According to Justice Jawad Hassan’s six-page written ruling, the court can only give instructions based on Article 199 of the Constitution.

The judge stated that there is no second person specified in the case to whom we can issue directions, nor is there any statute cited in this respect.

As a result, the claimant’s appeal contradicts the fundamental structure of the Constitution, he noted.
