Shane Warne will be honoured with an Australian state burial.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Saturday that the “sad and abrupt departure” of Shane Warne had left Australians “bewildered,” and that the cricketing legend will be honoured with a state burial.

Morrison said about the 52-year-old, “He was one of our nation’s finest personalities.”

Morrison characterised him as a larger-than-life figure who lighted up each Australian summer, praising him as an example to backyard cricketers throughout the country.

“His wit, enthusiasm, irreverence, and approachability meant that he was well-liked by everybody.”

Warne’s family will be accorded a state funeral in appreciation of his “national achievements,” Morrison said in a statement.

He promised to “guarantee we honour Shane’s passing and memory” by consulting with the Warne family.

Morrison likened Warne to all-time great and fellow Australian Don Bradman, who was recently diagnosed with Covid-19 and is currently in isolation.

Morrison stated, “There was no one like Shane.”

“He went about his daily routine in his own unique way. He had many accomplishments, but he also had many regrets. All of them were carried in the same direction. With a mischievous grin and a strong desire to live life to the fullest.”

“Our summers had a magical quality to them because of him. The bleached blonde hair, the seemingly casual manner in which he went to deliver a package, and his interaction with the audience. He was a one-of-a-kind individual.”

“He encouraged a lot of young ladies and boys to take up cricket. He made everything out to be so simple. We’ve all tried to deliver a flipper in our backyards at some point.”

“Our hearts break for Shane’s family, especially his children Brooke, Jackson, and Summer.”
