Former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Friday that early elections were being discussed because they appeared to be the only solution to the current political situation.
Sheikh Rashid stated in a statement, “They (opposition members) used to taunt us about being chosen; now I challenge them to stand against us in front of the masses.”
The former minister stated that he had been dropping hints to the public and the establishment that this was going to happen, and that the election campaign had already begun in his constituency for the past four days.
Sheikh Rashid also stated that the interim government will take control of the country soon.
When asked about the upcoming elections, Sheikh Rashid stated that they will be held without the use of electronic voting machines, but that they will be fair.
