In the midst of the province’s continuous political upheaval, a vital session of the Punjab Assembly to pick a new Leader of the House after Usman Buzdar resigned from the role more than two weeks ago has been postponed after PTI legislators assaulted the Deputy Speaker.
The session was to be presided over by Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari in order to carry out the electoral process as ordered by the Lahore High Court (LHC).
To avert any untoward incidents, Section 144 has been enforced in the region up to 500 metres around the Punjab Assembly building, which prohibits workers from any political party from congregating within this range.
