According to CCTV evidence authenticated by Reuters, US comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Tuesday night by an assailant who rugby-tackled him before being seized and detained.
The assault occurred little over a month after actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars, an unusual incident at the globally televised event that sparked fears that other performers would be targeted.
Smith, who won best actor, was afterwards barred from attending the Oscars for a period of ten years. It was unclear whether Chappelle was hurt in Tuesday’s incident or what prompted it.
