The actor and comedian Stephen Fry has been named the new President of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Fry, a lifelong cricket lover, is a patron of the MCC Foundation, and presented a memorable MCC Cowdrey Lecture last year. Clare Connor, the current President, recommended him for the position, and he will take over when her tenure ends on October 1.
“It is an honour and a privilege to be nominated as MCC’s future President,” Fry remarked. “It’s a club that’s known all around the world for what it stands for in the game, and to be given this opportunity is incredibly humbling.”
“I thank Clare for this great opportunity and I look forward to helping her as President Designate throughout the summer before commencing my own innings in the autumn.”
Fry is an actor, screenwriter, author, dramatist, journalist, poet, comedian, television host, and film director from the United Kingdom. He is also a mental health champion and has served as President of Mind, a mental health organisation, for more than a decade.
What’s even more disturbing is that this isn’t an isolated incident of snooping celebrity homes. Singer Uzair Jaswal recounts a similar but more intrusive event in which admirers stopped up at his home while he was gone and pretended to be his pals. Not only that, but the admirers only left after tea with his family.
