During the hearing of the presidential reference on the interpretation of Article 63A on Tuesday, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan said that overthrowing governments with the use of money has become a tradition. He remarked that the process of subverting the government by horse trade should be stopped.
According to the information, the hearing on the presidential reference questioning the interpretation of Article 63A was resumed by a five-member bigger bench led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
Even individuals who do not pay utility bills, according to PTI lawyer Babar Awan, are not eligible for membership. If there is no time limit for disqualification, it will be indefinite.
In this context, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail wondered if the disqualification would still remain if a disqualified candidate paid the money before the next election.
Meanwhile, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan stated that the suspension will be lifted after the payment was paid. Under Article 62(1)(f), disqualification is solely for life.
