President Joe Biden came in Japan on Sunday (May 22) to reveal a plan for increased US economic engagement with the Indo-Pacific region, drawing criticism even before the program’s announcement that it will provide little benefit to the region’s countries.
Biden will meet with leaders of Japan, India, and Australia on the second part of his first Asia tour as president, a key component of his strategy to counter China’s growing influence.
Shortly after landing in Tokyo, Biden met with Japanese business leaders, including the president of Toyota Motor Corp, at the ambassador’s residence, according to a source familiar with the situation.
