Arshad Sharif was reportedly shot dead by Kenyan police on Sunday along the Nairobi-Magadi highway in a “mistaken identification case.”
According to Kenyan media, the journalist was tragically shot in the head by authorities after reportedly breaking a roadblock set up to keep a watch on cars travelling along the route.
According to local police sources, they were told to catch a car engaged in a carjacking in Nairobi in which a kid was held hostage, which was similar to the one Arshad Sharif and his driver were driving.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Kenyan President William Ruto on Monday to demand an objective and fair probe into the death of veteran journalist Arshad Sharif.
While discussing the unfortunate tragedy with Kenya’s president, the prime minister expressed severe concerns on behalf of the Pakistani country and the media community.
He had also asked Kenya’s president to expedite the completion of paperwork for the repatriation of the late journalist’s body to Pakistan.
President William Ruto expressed his condolences for the situation and vowed that justice will be delivered.
He also promised to disclose the investigation results as soon as possible, as well as to expedite the process of retrieving the late journalist’s corpse.
