LAHORE (Web Desk) – Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) head Imran Khan stated on Saturday that extending the mandate of former army chief retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa was a “mistake.”
In an interview with a private channel, the PTI chairman stated that his removal exposed many individuals, adding that he has known the Sharif family for 40 years and that their sole goal is to steal the country and obtain NRO.
Imran Khan went on to say that when these two families [Sharif and Zardari] came to power, Pakistan began to disintegrate, and that PML-Miftah N’s Ismail and current Financial Czar Ishaq Dar were arguing over the health of the economy as the country approached default.
“Giving an extension to previous army head General (retired) Bajwa was a mistake, and extensions should not be given in the military, but the reality was otherwise, and he had no choice,” he continued.
Earlier today, in response to the arrest of PTI leader and Senator Azam Swati, Imran Khan stated that the new military leadership would have “disassociated” itself from retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa’s views.
The former prime minister wrote on Twitter, “The entire nation is outraged at the vengeful brutality Senator Azam Swati is being subjected to, and for what crime?”
“For intemperate language and raising questions, which is the right of everyone in a democracy?” the PTI Chief said.
He went on to say that Pakistan and its military were being seen “increasingly poorly” globally because the current federal government was “considered as a simple puppet administration.”
“One would have anticipated that the new mly ldrship would have immediately disassociated itself from Bajwa’s fascist acts against the PTI, the media, and critical journalists,” he continued.
Imran Khan went on to say that “74-year-old Senator Swati must be released immediately, not only because he committed no crime to deserve this mental and physical torment,” but also because the military’s reputation was being undermined by the “petulant and spiteful targeting.”
