ISLAMABAD (APP) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was asked by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to provide a detailed record about their investigation into the financing of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) (PPP).

Farukh Habib, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), submitted a petition asking for an early examination of the two parties, and Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard it.

Aima Anwar Khan, the petitioner’s attorney, said that at the last hearing, the court had requested the record from the ECP.

The Director General Law of the ECP pleaded with the court to extend the deadline since the Commission was preoccupied with election-related issues.

Since ECP was not even running local government elections in the Federal Capital, the top judge questioned what the organization’s responsibilities were.

The DG Law responded that three National Assembly seats from Islamabad had also become vacant and that the ECP was preparing for LG elections in the Capital.

The court subsequently put the matter on hold until February 7 and ordered the director of general counsel to provide the full record of the two parties’ financing on that day.
