Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi will go to China in the coming days for a three-day visit aimed at expanding economic relations, according to state media on Sunday.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Raisi will depart for Beijing on Monday evening in response to an official invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Both presidents first met last September in Uzbekistan at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference, when the Iranian president advocated for stronger relations.

Raisi is likely to conduct private meetings with Xi during his future trip, and delegates from both nations are anticipated to sign “cooperation papers,” according to IRNA.

Raisi will also meet with Chinese businesses and Iranians residing in the country, according to the agency.

Iran and China have substantial economic relations, particularly in energy, transportation, agriculture, commerce, and investment.

In 2021, the nations signed a 25-year “strategic partnership treaty” including “political, strategic, and economic” components.

According to IRNA, China is Iran’s top trading partner, citing 10-month numbers from Iranian customs officials.

Iran’s exports to Beijing were $12.6 billion, while imports from China totaled $12.7 billion.
