ISLAMABAD – Rana Sanaullah, leader and minister of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), believes that national and provincial elections should be conducted simultaneously.

After dissolving the provincial legislatures in January of this year, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is demanding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Since the removal of Imran Khan as prime minister by a vote of no confidence in April of last year, it has also demanded fast elections in the nation.

In a statement, Mr. Sanaullah said that the PTI chairman would begin a blame game if he lost the polls, claiming there was no caretaker structure at the Centre. He said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should make a better judgement, since elections should promote national stability rather than disturbance.

The interior minister said that the PTI president would be accountable if he were to be disqualified by the Islamabad High Court in a case involving the concealment of his purported daughter Tyrian White in his nomination papers. “Why had he hidden his child?” he inquired.

Mr. Khan was accused by the PML-N stalwart of harming ties with friendly nations. “They were waging an anti-corruption campaign, yet the worst graft operations were taking place beneath his nose,” he sneered at the PTI chairman.
