All set for Multan NA-148 by-election today

MULTAN – All arrangements for the NA -148 by-election on Sunday (today) have been finished.

Twelve candidates from various political parties are vying for the seat left vacant by Senator Yousuf Raza Gilani’s departure after taking oath as Senate Chairman.

NA-148 Multan is a large seat, and the approaching by-election will draw attention from a variety of political groups competing for victory.

Taimur Altaf Malik, Ali Qasim Gilani, son of Yusuf Raza Gilani, Khalid Javed Waraich, Ahmed Hussain Dehr, Muhammad Atif Imran, Rubeena Akhtar, Saqib Mahmood Mahay, Rana Jang Sher Ali, Azhar Ahmed Sandila, Jamshed Abbas Bapi, Rana Ameeq, and Amjad Hussain were among the candidates who received nomination papers from Returning Officer Muhammad Saif of NA-148.

Political commentators anticipate a difficult race between PPP Ali Qasim Gilani, SIC Taimur Altaf, and Ahmed Hussain Dehr.

Ahmed Hussain Dehr received 57,989 votes on the PML-N ticket in the elections held on February 8.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the constituency has 213,333 registered voters (111,639 males and 101,694 females).

The seat, formerly known as NA-154 Multan-I in the 2018 election delimitations, has been renamed NA-148 Multan-I. A study of electoral registers suggests a 171,900 vote drop in 2024 compared to 2018.
