SLAMABAD: On Friday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) stayed the sentences of ten people found guilty in charges involving the riots that occurred on May 9 and May 10, 2023.
A bench made up of Justices Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan and Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani mandated that the defendants post bail bonds of Rs 25,000 apiece.
The suspects in the FIR were charged with assaulting police officers and setting fire to the Faizabad police post, the court stated during the hearing. None of the accused were taken into custody at the scene, according to the record.
Following the case’s arguments, the court ordered the release of 10 PTI employees—including five Afghan nationals—on bail and postponed their sentences for the May 9 and May 10 convictions.
The prosecution charge sheet states that the accused was instructed by the court to provide the Deputy Registrar with their original identity cards in order to verify their citizenship.
