KARACHI: The Nationa
l Accountability Bureau’s Regional Board for Karachi has recommended that various officers from the Sindh government’s Health, Education and Literacy, Information, Irrigation, and Works and Services departments be investigated for alleged abuse of power, corruption, embezzlement, and possession of assets beyond income.
The regional board met on Friday, with DG NAB Karachi Dr Najaf Quli Mirza in the chair, to address inquiries, investigations, and other operational concerns, according to a press release.
The board recommended that six probes be converted into investigations to the appropriate authorities (Chairman NAB).

The board recommended that the inquiry into the alleged misuse of authority and embezzlement of funds by officers and officials from the provincial departments of Education and Literacy, Health, and others in awarding 11 contracts worth Rs3.9 billion to blue-eyed firms without following codal formalities be turned into an investigation.
The Department of Information and Archives was found to be in violation of the investigation’s findings.
It also suggested that a probe into officers and officials of Sindh’s Information and Archives Department, as well as others, be turned into an investigation.
According to the NAB, the officials were reportedly involved in corruption and corrupt activities by spending large sums of money on advertising public awareness campaigns in the electronic media without following the proper procedures and in collusion with advertising firms.

The board also recommended that a probe be opened into an investigation against Ghulam Yasin Qureshi, Ex-Director Ghotki Feeder Canal, Irrigation Department, and others for allegedly possessing assets not linked to recognised sources of income.

The above-mentioned individuals were reportedly implicated in abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and usurpation of government property “in connivance with others.”
Sehwan Development Authority has been recommended for investigation.
An probe into officers and officials of the Sehwan Development Authority and others should be converted into an investigation, according to the board.
They were accused of abusing their positions of power at SDA by making 486 unlawful appointments and a number of out-of-turn promotions.
The Department of Works and Services has been recommended for investigation.
The board accepted the conversion of an inquiry into a probe into allegations of assets beyond known sources of income against Madad Ali Arain, Ex-Superintendent Engineer, Works and Services Department, Hyderabad, and others.
