LAHORE, Pakistan — Arjuna Ranatunga, a former Sri Lanka cricket captain and politician, sent Prime Minister Imran Khan a letter on Tuesday praising his government’s efforts to bring justice to Priyantha Kumara Diyawadanage, who was murdered in a cruel and horrific act.

Ranatanga, who has played international cricket with Imran Khan, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan highlighting the close relations between the two nations in both cricket and foreign affairs.

He also expressed his thanks to Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Pakistani government for their continuous support and devotion to Priyantha Diyawadana’s family.

“Violent, vigilante conduct should be firmly criticised, as you have stated in the media. “It is critical to recognise that these crimes are perpetrated by a tiny percentage of the population, and that an entire nation should not be blamed based on the actions of a few, especially given our long-standing connection,” he said.

Whether it’s cricket or politics, the former captain said you’ve always been unflappable in the face of adversity, adding that since becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan, you’ve been methodically settling the country’s difficult issues.

He added, “I hope you will be able to teach a few misinformed members of the Pakistani community to treat everyone with the respect and decency that all human beings deserve.”
