CHAKAR: A school van crashed down a hilly road in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, hurting at least 29 students and the driver.
On Tuesday, a vehicle drove down a steep mountainous road in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), injuring at least 29 pupils and their driver.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirza Zahid Hussain, the vehicle belonged to a private school, Islamiya Public School in Chakar, and was bringing both boys and girls home when the accident happened near Tambryal Mor.
According to the SSP, the van lost control on a curve and drove off the road, injuring virtually all of the passengers.
Mirza Zahid Hussain stated that 16 wounded children were sent to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Chakar, while the driver and 13 children were moved to the District Headquarters Hospital in Hattian Bala.
The driver was identified as Sajjad Shah. Two children are believed to be in serious condition, while the others are safe.
A video footage posted by the SSP shows the wrecked vehicle resting on a wooded slope, with locals running to help with rescue operations.
According to SSP Mirza Zahid Hussain, if large trees had not halted the van’s fall, it may have rolled further down, inflicting much more significant damage.
