QUETTA (Channel News Pakistan) – Temperatures in Balochistan have plummeted to – 12 degrees Celsius, freezing even the flowing water.

Despite the fact that snowfall has stopped in the province’s northern and higher parts, strong cold and Siberian winds remain prevalent. Sub-zero temperatures in Quetta, Kalat, Chaman, and Ziarat have frozen residential water pipelines, resulting in a severe drinking water crisis.

Due to the intense cold, water in ponds, roadways, and open spaces has frozen solid. Several stretches of the Quetta-Ziarat highway remain snow-covered. The administration has banned tourist travel to Ziarat for the next 24 hours, and the N-50 Zhob Highway is closed at several spots.

Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Ziarat, Pishin, and Toba Achakzai have all seen significant disruptions to their daily lives. Temperatures as low as -12 degrees Celsius were reported at the Pakistan-Afghan border and in the higher areas. The National Highway Authority and district administrations are conducting road clearing operations using salt and heavy gear.
