RIYAD : Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries demanded an immediate cessation of military operations in Gaza on Saturday, dismissing Israel’s rationale for its actions against Palestinians as self-defense.

According to the final statement of the unusual joint Islamic-Arab summit in Riyadh, the International Criminal Court was asked to probe “war crimes and crimes against humanity that Israel is committing” in the Palestinian territories.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto ruler, assembled Arab and Muslim leaders to underscore that message.
Dozens of dignitaries, including Iran’s Ebrahim Raisi, Turkey’s Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, have attended.

The kingdom’s “condemnation and categorical rejection of this barbaric war against our brothers in Palestine,” Prince Mohammed said.

“We are facing a humanitarian catastrophe that proves the failure of the Security Council and the international community to put an end to the flagrant Israeli violations of international laws,” he said during a speech at the conference.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the conflict a “genocidal war” and asked the US to put a halt to Israeli “aggression.”

Raisi praised the Palestinian Islamist terrorist group Hamas for battling Israel and asked Islamic nations to impose oil and economic restrictions on Israel.
“There is no other choice but to oppose Israel.” “We kiss Hamas’ hands for its resistance to Israel,” Raisi declared in his speech.

Since Hamas rebels launched an attack on Israel on October 7, murdering 1,200 people, the Middle East has been on edge.

Israel has since expanded its attack on Gaza, killing 11,078 individuals as of Friday, 40% of whom were youngsters, according to Palestinian sources.
