LONDON (AFP) — Novak Djokovic stated on Saturday that missing Wimbledon would not have been “correct” despite undergoing knee surgery little over three weeks ago.

The 37-year-old Serb, who is attempting to tie Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon wins and become the oldest champion of the modern era, stated that he was motivated by a “incredible desire to play and compete.”

Djokovic need surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee after getting hurt at the French Open earlier this month.

He was forced to quit before his quarterfinal and has not played since.
