PARIS (AP) — The Paris Olympics organising committee has released preparations for alternative open-water activities in case swimming in the Seine River is ruled unsafe.
The renowned river that flows through Paris is the venue for triathlon and marathon swimming events. However, dangerously high levels of E. coli have been found in recent weeks, raising doubts about whether the events can go as scheduled.
The triathlon and marathon, which are slated to take place near the Alexander III bridge between July 30 and August 5, may be postponed by a few days if conditions are dangerous, according to backup plans announced by the organisers on Friday.
