BASTAD (Reuters) – In a thrilling performance for the Spanish player’s supporters ahead of the Olympics in Paris, Rafa Nadal defeated Briton Cam Norrie 6-4 6-4 on Thursday to go to the quarterfinals in Bastad.

The former world number one skipped Wimbledon in order to focus on the Olympic competition, and it seemed to be working as he overcame a 4-1 deficit in the second set to force a match with fourth-seeded Mariano Navone of Argentina.

In the opening set, 38-year-old Rafael Nadal, the wild card, saved two break points and broke Norrie’s serve in the third game of the match.
