MADRID (Reuters) – Spain’s antitrust agency announced on Wednesday that it had launched an investigation into suspected anti-competitive behavior by Apple’s App Store, a claim the tech giant disputed.
The CNMC, as the regulator is known, said that Apple may have imposed unequal economic terms on producers of mobile applications sold through its app marketplace.
According to the regulator, the actions might be regarded a major violation of competition law, punishable by a punishment of up to 10% of the company’s global revenues.
Apple disputed that it imposed unfair commercial conditions on mobile application developers.
“Spanish developers of all sizes compete on a level playing field on the App Store,” according to the statement.
