JERUSALEM: The military said on Friday (July 26) that Israeli troops engaged Palestinian fighters in combat in Khan Younis in southern Gaza and demolished tunnels and other infrastructure in an effort to stifle minor militant units that had been hitting troops with mortar fire.

Since Israeli forces started their most recent operation in Khan Younis on Monday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that they had killed almost 100 Palestinian combatants. The operation continued as pressure rose for a deal to end the conflict.

It stated that four fighters were also died in airstrikes near Rafah, farther south, and that seven minor units that had been launching mortars at the army were also struck.
