GENEVA (Reuters) – Thousands of Palestinians have been forcibly abducted from Gaza, including from bomb shelters, and detained in Israel, where some have been tortured and scores have died, according to a UN human rights report released on Tuesday.
Many of those detained in Gaza since the war began on October 7 were apprehended at checkpoints as they left Israel’s military offensive or from schools and hospitals where they were sheltering, according to the 23-page report, which was based mostly on interviews with released detainees, other victims, and witnesses.
Frequently, they were blindfolded and shackled before being flown to Israel and kept in “cage-like” military facilities. According to the UN report, 53 detainees have perished.
