(Reuters) – Anwar El Ghazi, a forward whose Mainz contract was canceled due to his sympathy for Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas conflict, has signed a one-year contract with Cardiff City, the Championship club said on Thursday.
Due to a social media post regarding the dispute, El Ghazi was first suspended by the Bundesliga team in October of last year. In November, the player’s contract was terminated by Mainz. Last month, a German court declared that the termination of his contract was improper.
El Ghazi wrote on social media platform X, “After the darkness of the last few months, I look forward to this new chapter at Cardiff. So, surely with hardship comes ease.”
