PARIS (Reuters) — The United States, four-time gold medalists, advanced to the Olympic women’s football semi-finals with a 1-0 victory over Japan on Saturday in Paris, thanks to a Trinity Rodman goal in extra time.
A large crowd at the Parc des Princes, including former Ballon d’Or winner Megan Rapinoe and artist Snoop Dogg, watched a hard-fought match in a long-standing women’s football rivalry.
Emma Hayes’ team will meet the winner of the quarterfinal between defending champions Canada and Germany in Marseille later on Saturday.
