(AFP) One of the four sources, Balarabe Alhaji, a community leader in one of the devastated areas in Zamfara state, said, “We buried a total of 143 individuals slain by the bandits in the raids.”
Hundreds of motorcycle-riding gunmen attacked ten villages in the Anka and Bukkuyum districts on Wednesday and Thursday, killing inhabitants, plundering their homes, and setting fire to them, according to locals.
The attacks have elicited no responses from officials or security authorities.
According to Babandi Hamidu, a resident of Kurfa Danya hamlet, militants riding into the villages were “shooting” anyone who crossed their path.
“More than 140 individuals were buried among the ten villages,” Hamidu said, “and the search for more dead is still ongoing because many people are missing.”
“The death toll is huge,” Idi Musa, a resident of another village, Kurfa Danya, said. Around 150 individuals have been slaughtered by the bandits, and we are collecting their bodies.”
Another neighbour, Babangida, who only revealed his first name, had a similar storey.
They were all present for graves in their respective villages, according to all four reports.
