Trump postpones planned strikes on Iran’s power systems for five days as talks progress, markets rebound, and tensions in the Gulf remain high.

TEL AVIV/JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he has ordered a five-day deferral of military attacks against Iranian power plants, just hours before a deadline that threatened further escalation in the crisis, which is in its fourth week.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Washington and Tehran had held “very good and productive” negotiations over the last two days aimed at ending hostilities in the Middle East. He said that a settlement may be achieved within days.

Axios reported that Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan met with White House ambassador Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi separately. According to a US source, the negotiations centered on bringing the conflict to a conclusion and addressing remaining difficulties. Iran’s foreign ministry recognized “initiatives” to alleviate tensions, but asked that Washington join directly.
