Hundreds of ticketless supporters attempted to assault Wembley Stadium on Sunday in an attempt to get entrance to England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy.

As the mood became tense in the hours leading up to kick-off, footage uploaded on social media showed fans fighting to get past lines of stewards and police.

While some of the supporters in the footage seemed to sneak past the barriers and inside the stadium, Wembley officials claimed that no security breach had occurred.

“We are dealing with an issue that happened in the stadium’s outside security perimeter area, with police support,” said a Wembley Stadium spokeswoman.

“Safety procedures were promptly triggered in the appropriate locations, and no security breaches occurred as a result of persons entering the stadium without tickets.”
Thousands of supporters gathered on Olympic Way well before the 1900 GMT kick-off to create a frenzy outside Wembley Stadium.

As maskless supporters gathered in huge groupings on the concrete approach to the stadium, social distance was ignored.
Since Gareth Southgate’s team qualified for the country’s first major final appearance in 55 years, England has been gripped by Euro fever.
The Three Lions are hoping to win their first World Cup since 1966.
The ultimate capacity at Wembley has been limited due to ongoing coronavirus limitations.
